As promised, heres a complete post/review on unify festival 2015. Man can you believe its been a whole month since unify already? shit where has the time gone to. anyway here goes nothing.
where do i even begin..?
Unify was crazy. there was no bad blood at all, just good vibes all around. not like in singapore where everyone just wants to kill each other, no offence really. this one was unlike any other festival i have ever been to. considering it was a 2 day camping festival thats for one. and secondly having sooo many friends around. hi fives/drinks all day. i need to spontaneously go camping and hang with 3000 people more often. HAH! Exploring more cities/meeting more new people. Would love more of these adventures and fun besides the usual next and bang every week! Someone should take me out to more adventures and stuff when I come back. Like idk we can do anything. Anyway moving on.
The gates opened at 12/1pm. It took approximately like 2 hours to drive up to tarwin meadows. Wayne, Emily, Rachael and i got up there at like 1130 and slowly one by one everyone started coming in and heaps of familiar faces all around. :)) by this time i was already pumped as everyone was just chilling out with music and eskis and beers. (so early in the day thats rightttt fkn strayaaaa doing it right haha)
gates were open and we got to the campsite area to set up our tents and stuff. the weather was pretty cold that day because it was supposed to rain. but clearly it didnt LOL. Set up our tents, got a couple of hours to spare before the first band at 320pm. Bumped into mates all around. such good times. Robbie!Ashleigh. its a funny story how i met her actually, we met at being as an ocean last winter and she took a polaroid photo of me and the band. she later found me on facebook when sierra posted of a photo of me and them. lovely lady.
the arena opened and i caught the second band Stories! followed by Aversions Crown. aversions crown were pretty darn sick i’ll tell ya that. I dont know much about the band but i loved how much energy they had in them holy shit. crowd was probably still warming up i reckon so i wasnt so sure about the pit. hmm Bumped into more familiar faces, especially this guy right here! Luke does vocals for the band Ocean Grove. y’all should check them out.
next band up at 5.20pm was a band i was really keen for. Storm The Sky. they recently released a new album “perfomance” get on it if you havent! i loved their set a lot and i loved the songs that they played. such great vibes. crowd ruled so hard too.
(random guy who wanted to take a photo, who then invited us back to his tent and we had some great punch)
HOLY CRAP BANANA MAN AND DUFF MAN. THEY WERE BOTH SO MUCH FUN IN THE MOSH HAHA And also, they took photos with me. it was funny as! i had a laugh with these guys. thanks for entertaining me 🙂
Saw Antagonist AD for a bit but wasnt too keen.
was keen on Buried In Verona though! i was in the pit for this one. i literally dashed my way to the front. I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LOVED MOSH PITS IN AUSTRALIA. no rowdiness like singapore, just friendly good old moshing fun like how it should be.
right after their set was Deez Nutz & Thy Art Is murder. i already saw thy art at bang last week so i chilled out at tents everywhere and took photos with basically any friend/every friend i saw because it was my last weekend in Aus so like for memories wise why the hell not? i wouldnt be seeing them for the next 6 months anyway.
TRIED MY FIRST BEER BONG BTW. HAHAHA THANK YOU JORDY DOWEL. I drank so much its a surprise i was even alive the next day and didnt puke or die of liver damage. made new friends as well. and caught the remaining last 3 bands which i’ve also been looking forward to alllll fucking day. In hearts wake, Northlane with marcus the new vocalist and the amity affliction!jarryd and jordy on my right. also god damn rhys why do you photobomb all my polaroids haha.
WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A FLYING BICYCLE IN THIS PICTURE. AHAHA man Australians. fkn loose cunts!
Kaihlin!
i love in hearts wake but seeing them this time round again wasnt that great as the last one. the first time i saw them at Corner for their earthwalker tour it was brilliant. still a top notch band though!
the new vocalist for Northlane aka Marcus fkn killed it??! i was so amazed at his vocals even though i was really far back and couldnt see much. I have never seen or heard someone scream so damn high and on par with lots of other vocalist before. i mean i watched his videos but hearing it live I WAS BLOWN AWAY. and i dont say this very often but wow northlane kudos to you for a great comeback with a freaking great vocalist!! the visuals were fucking trippy and cool too. definitely a highlight.
This is the 3rd time im seeing The Amity Affliction live (sorry not sorry singaporean friends who havent seen them yet.) i loved their performance but i think the first time i saw them will always be the best which was none other than Perth’s Soundwave 2013. this was before let the ocean take me was released.
i loved their set dont get me wrong, hearing the new stuff live was great stuff, but the first time i saw them they played a much longer set and i also got to hear more from the album “Youngbloods” which is personally still my favourite album till this very day. still a better performance than the second one that they played at Warped Tour 2013 though.
—-END OF DAY 1—-
barely got any sleep at all, woke up the next day feeling so gross and so hungover i wanted to die. but it was such a good night indeed. went to bed at 4ish in the morning. urghhhhhh the grass was really hard to sleep on and it was cold as fuck. Wayne and Emily on the other hand probably slept like a log because they had a blown up mattress and their tents were huge. christ mine was so tiny im glad i even had one. (thank you housemate/mum alex for having a spare tent)
Arena opened at 8am and the first band was Endless Heights playing at 11:00am. i am pretty sure most of the 3000 people at the arena were so hungover they couldnt stay for break even. they said carpark would open from 3pm onwards but people were already leaving so early because lets face it, we were all that dead from last night.
endless heights opened day 2 and i dont know how some people even get the energy to open the pit. but most people were sitting down under the sun. (god damn you sun i didnt even know i could get sunt burnt so badly for fucks sakes! i thought it was supposed to rain!) but anyway, i saw endless heights at the earthwalker tour as well and i quite like this set instead of the last. ok confession, i didnt actually know any of their songs at the earthwalker tour let alone knew who they were until i saw them. but hey i quite like this band and the fact that they could open up day 2 was great haha. the enthusiasm there.
this two has been there since the start of the festival helping us pull our stuff to the camp site. we set up our camp together and they are a lovely bunch! i now have them on facebook haha. such rad dudes from bendigo. would totally love to hang with them again sometime when i come back.RHYS GRAFFFFFF.
right after endless heights was Hellions. i wasnt really into them because i didnt know their stuff so they were a totally new band for me, but after checking their stuff out on spotify they are not bad indeed. Hand Of Mercy was next. Saw them at warped with their old vocalist. they were alright. by the time they were playing the sun was scotching hot as fuck and i got so sun burnt i wanted to die so i only saw them for a couple of minutes and seeked shelter.
Also, everyone was already leaving by this time so i bid my final goodbyes to friends that i wont be able to see for the next 5/6months. it was a pretty sad and intense moment for me. sigh. proceeded back to the camp site and began packing up in sadness and sorrow.
:(.
stayed on for Confession’s set because i really wanted to see this band but by this time i was already so god damn tired and beat and stink of sweat and what not i just wanted to go home.
And finally, break even at 2:10pm. watched like half their set and then left the venue altogether. just could not stand the heat anymore and was wayyyy too tired. loved break even though. people were throwing toilet paper around haha has 1 last polaroid left and bumped into luke and dale from ocean grove again at their tents so yup whipped out my camera.
thus concluded the 2 day looooosest festival of my life
So long unify. see you next year in 2016!
p.s this was how sun burnt i was and till now i am more tanned than ever. fml
Also it is freaking 4am in the morning I’m not sure how I managed to finish this blog post even though I have countless of assignments to do
shit.
xx,
Natalie
